The Rokinon Cine DS lenses were designed for video production.
This lens is an excellent performer from the recently introduced DS product line which offers significant improvement over the previous versions. They feature industry-standard geared focus and aperture rings that share common position with the other lenses in the product line. The common position speeds up lens changes because focus followers and iris motors don't need to be re-positioned. These are manual focus lenses that can be operated by hand or with the aid of a focus follow device. DS means there are scales written on both sides of the lens so focus pullers can see the numbers from both sides of the camera. The aperture rings are "de-clicked" so they move smoothly form stop to stop rather than clicking into specific positions allowing for very smooth transitions.
This is the 24mm version, which has a 84-degree angle of view when mounted on a full frame camera, such as the Canon 5D mark III. Aperture settings are marked in T-stops rather an F-stops. A T-stop is a measure of how much light is actually transmitted through the lens. An F-stop is the focal length of the lens divided by the diameter of the aperture. This is an f/1.4 lens and can be used effectively for photography as well. The glass and the mount are the same as the photography version. The focus and aperture rings have gears instead of rubber grips, and the aperture ring doesn't click into fixed stops. Rent the Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine DS lens today.
