The Nikon TC-17E II AF-S provides a 1.7x increase in focal length. It is designed to be used with Nikkor AF-S and AF-I telephoto lenses. It's not intended to work with all AF-S lens, only the telephotos. Other lenses physically won't mount on it. With our inventory of lenses, this means that it only works with the Nikkor AF-S 105mm f/2.8G VR, the Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 ED VR, and the Nikkor 300mm AF-S f/4D ED. It reduces the aperture by 1.5 stops. The 1.7 is a good compromise between the 1.4x and the 2.0x because sometimes the 2.0x limits the performance of the lens. On the 105mm lens, the focal length becomes 180mm, the image is sharp, but the autofocus is not supported. On the 70-200mm lens, the focal length becomes 120-340mm, the autofocus and VR are fully functional and the image stays sharp. There may be a hint of softness at the extremes of 200mm and the aperture wide open at f/2.8, but the images are quite acceptable. On the 300mm lens, the focal length becomes 510mm, the image remains very sharp, but the autofocus is not supported. This teleconverter is NOT compatible with the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP Di VC USD G2 (for Nikon)
