New is the 30.4 MP full frame CMOS sensor, the speedier DIGIC 6+ image processor that can digest up to 7 frames per second in continuous shooting mode, and 4K video capture. The ISO offers a huge range of 50-102400 which creates high quality images in all scenarios from super-bright to super-low light. The 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor assures proper exposure.
The focusing system uses 61-points and is similar to the one used on the high-end 1DX mark II. Depending on your settings, up to 41 focusing are cross type which means they can focus in either the vertical or horizontal direction. When this system is used in AI-Servo mode, it can track and lock onto subjects faster and more accurately than ever before.
The video capabilities are tremendous. The Dual Pixel CMOS and Movie Servo AF are capable of smoothly changing focus during a shot. This enables professional style follow-focus capabilities where the focus follows the action in the scene. The LCD is a 3.2" 1.62m-dot touchscreen. Just tap to on the screen to adjust the focus point. The 4K video recording is (4096 x 2160) up to 30 fps. Users can pull 8.8MP stills from the video. A brand new feature is Dual Pixel RAW, which allows users to modify bokeh and focus micro in post processing after the image is taken.
